Horizon Textbook Publishing Releases Understanding Algebra for College Students (4th Edition)
Redding, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2006 -- Horizon Textbook Publishing (http://www.htpublishing.com) , the leaders in custom textbook publishing for over 20 years, today announced the release of Understanding Algebra for College Students (4th ed.), by Bernard Kolman (Drexel University) and Arnold Shapiro (Temple University).
The authors, Kolman and Shapiro, adopt an informal, supportive style to encourage the student to read the entire book and to develop confidence under its guidance. They reinforce every new mathematical technique or result with detailed examples and captions clarifying their purpose. After each example, the student is presented with the opportunity to tackle a sample problem, called a Progress Check, with the answer available in the text.
“We are very excited about the improvements that come with this fourth edition,” said Jason James, CEO of Horizon Textbook Publishing. “It is the perfect compliment to our introductory college algebra text, and to a new calculus title we plan to release in the upcoming months.”
About Bernard Kolman
Kolman received a B.S. (summa cum laude with honors in mathematics and physics) from Brooklyn College in 1954, an Sc.M. from Brown University in 1956, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965, all in mathematics. From 1964-1998, he was a member of the Mathematics Department at Drexel University, where he also served as Acting Head of the department. He is well known as the author of many mathematics textbooks that are used worldwide and have been translated into several languages.
About Arnold Shapiro
Shapiro spent the bulk of his working career in industry, where he was involved in the earliest efforts to utilize mathematical modeling in the solution of problems in Operations Research. He then "retired" into teaching mathematics at Drexel University and computer science at Temple University.
